Our early research in psychology and linguistics goes as far back as 2012 and involved challenging and deconstructing accepted norms in such areas as psychometrics and psychotherapy.
Papers authored by our CTO, Ian McLaren Wallace led to a residency at Dundee University where we developed the award-winning cognitive framework architecture, ‘the Human Space’.
This is a unique framework based on Nobel prize-winning cognitive theory and first applied to ‘Human Orienters‘ – using a novel application of contemporary psycholinguistics theory to move beyond the inherent biases of conventional psychometrics.
Working with a blend of award-winning psychology concepts and novel artificial intelligence methods, Human Orienters provided some of the core technology for our research in AI Psychotherapy.
In 2017, deeper research began on the development of an AI Psychotherapist, using person-centred communication and clean language underpinned by extensive and proven approaches to psychotherapy.
As we began to test the two prototypes as well as exploring the product-market fit, we finally incorporated the business in 2019 and were immediately invited to join the PwC Scale programme.
From presenting our artificial intelligence to a wide range of people, it became obvious early on that we all want to be comfortable with talking to a therapist. This meant that chatbot technology had to be removed from the equation.
We needed to create a Listening Space – something that would ask questions, put things into context, and allow people to stray from the point.
Within two years, Litha’s Conversationer technology has gone from concept to prototype.
In early 2021, the first Conversationer moved out of the lab and a whole new way for technology to talk with humans was born.
With so much of the underlying technology now designed and proven, we are beginning to build social impact solutions with a focus on individual and collective psychology, mental health, loneliness, and degenerative brain conditions.
Bringing psychology development and psychotherapy into one product, Bruadar launched in 2022.
Our Vision & Mission
Our vision is to provide the global platform for technology that is the cornerstone of deeper human-computer and human-human connections.
Our mission is to continually push the boundaries of psycholinguistic Artificial Intelligence to disrupt technologies, industries, and organisations.
Built on world firsts
Being Human is all about developing solutions from the end-user perspective and then orienting the technology accordingly.
This calls for a deeper level of human psychology as opposed to just looking at the mechanics of conversation.
Our focus on psycholinguistic AI technology means that our growing IP portfolio has a series of world firsts.
Generative conversations using psychology and conversational skills to build short- mid- and long-term context interactions
Human goes beyond retrospective and predictive analytics to forecast and simulate future user behaviours.
Our Founder Team
Ian McLaren Wallace
Co-Founder & CTO
Ian is a multi-award-winning psychologist with over 40 years’ experience in his field. His books are constantly referred to and he appears regularly on TV and Radio as well as speaking widely about linguistic imagery. This expertise in imagery underpins Human's R&D into innovative approaches to human- computer interaction where the AI seeks to understand rather than simply answer. Ian has been actively involved in software development for more than a decade. He applies a rare blend of psychology, technology, and commerciality in creating powerful (and unique) AI technologies.
Co-Founder & CEO
Neil has over 30 years’ experience in business growth ranging from launching his first SaaS company in 1997 through to Business Director with Tribal Group Plc.
